Here is some stuff I did in October 2020…

2020 trends

So, it’s somehow November next week. And with that in mind, we have three CMU webinars coming up looking back at the “unprecedented” year that has been 2020, and what’s been happening in the music industry. We have a session on the industry at large, including how COVID has impacted the different strands of the business, from ‘complete shutdown’ to ‘not that much’. Then we have a session looking specifically at streaming trends, and a third looking at all the key developments in music copyright. Get all the info here.

A:E Day On-Demand

Our next Artist:Entrepreneur Day is the annual folk, roots and acoustic music edition in partnership with English Folk Expo. We’re doing this one a bit differently. We pre-recorded it earlier this month, with participants from English Folk Expo’s Artist Mentoring Programme tuning in. Next month it will be available to all on-demand via the Folk Expo YouTube and Facebook profiles. You can find out some more info here.

Streaming inquiry

Parliament’s culture select committee announcing an inquiry into the economics of music streaming is both interesting and also a great excuse to remind you about those Setlist specials we made running through ten common misunderstandings about, well, the economics of music streaming. You can check them out here. And if you want to know more, there’s definitely a book I can recommend!

More webinars

October is always one of our busy times for CMU training with lots of seminars and lectures and such like. And this year is no different. Except that I’ll be delivering all the webinars and lectures from my desk in Leytonstone of course! That’s definitely different. This week’s sessions kick off tomorrow with the latest CMU Insights webinar. We have one of them every Tuesday afternoon at 2.30pm with all these topics set to be covered in the weeks ahead – get all the info here.

Weekend neighbours

I had a great weekend celebrating my mum’s 80th birthday, in a socially-distanced fashion, in a converted farm building situated in an otherwise deserted corner of the Peak District. I tried making conversation with the nearest neighbours but they didn’t seem very impressed. And despite me being at least two metres away at all times!

Heading north!

First time out of London since lockdown began! Celebrated on my way to the station with my first Carluccios Chicken Milanese since lockdown began! First time on wobbly train wifi since lockdown began! First time trying to work out how to consume the complimentary cheese and biscuits through my mask since lockdown began!
